2019 Carlmont High School Boys Summer Basketball

2019 Carlmont High School Boys Summer Basketball

Students Entering 9th thru 12th grades Dear Basketball Families,, Welcome to Carlmont Summer Basketball. This program is designed to give both current Carlmont High and incoming 8th grade students a better understanding of the game and skills necessary to compete at the high school level. Our focus will be on developing individual skills and how they can be incorporated into our team concept. Carlmont Summer Basketball is open to everyone incoming grades 9-12 regardless of experience or skill. We make every effort to give all athletes who participate an opportunity to test their skills in practice, scrimmages, and possibly summer league games with the understanding that playing time is not guaranteed, but must be earned. Our summer program is a fundraiser for the Carlmont High School Boys Basketball Program. The money we earn goes towards the fees associated with Frosh, JV, and Varsity summer games, reversible jerseys, and additionally this money helps us provide equipment and most importantly a good portion of the money goes toward the coaches stipend allowing us to have a Freshman team at Carlmont. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. It helps to build our boys program and allows more student-athletes the opportunity to give high school basketball a try. For the varsity team 11th and 12th grades, at the bottom of the registration page is a list of the summer practice/tournament schedule dates. Please mark the dates your son will be available to practice and or play in a weekend tournament in the month of July. Practices would be at Carlmont on Thursday and Friday followed by tournament games Saturday and Sunday. The plan is to play 3 or 4 weekends of that month. It’s extremely important at the Varsity level to make a commitment in this shortened summer schedule if your hopes are to be ready for tryouts in the winter. For all incoming 9th and 10th graders, there will be two Carlmont Summer Teams, Frosh and JV. They will practice once a week together every Monday from 6:30-9pm beginning June 10th and ending July 16th at the Carlmont High School Main Gym. Additionally they will be entered in the Sequoia High School Summer League. That’s a Tuesday night league(times undetermined) beginning June 11th and ending July 17. In other words, every Monday and Tuesday Carlmont Summer Basketball for six weeks. Missing Frosh/JV practices and games is not recommended but understandable at the Frosh and JV level in the summer. Please try and be as consistent as possible with attendance. Please fill out the information on the attached registration form and return with your payment ASAP. If payment is made on or before May 23rd $275.00, thereafter $300.00. The game schedule will be sent to your email upon paid registration. You may also register and pay at the first Monday evening practice. You can find this and other information on the athletics page of the Carlmont High School website. Look under Varsity Basketball (more) and you’ll find the Gym Calendar. There you can view changes, additions, open gym schedules, plus regular season practices and regular season games for all teams. You can also find the Summer Schedule. I’ve also attached our Spring Open Gym Schedule. These are after school basketball games open to all current Carlmont students only. These games are overseen by our Carlmont coaching staff and are free of charge. You can turn in your summer registration to any coach at an open gym. Make sure to add your email and feel free to contact me for information regarding private or group lessons, and options regarding AAU.

FAQ's

If my child makes a team when will practices and games be? The game schedule is usually posted a week before the season starts. Practices are determined by the coach so it is too early to determine the time commitment. If your child plays more than one sport that would take away from the commitment to the Ralston team then you may want to reconsider.

Are there costs associated with after school sports?

School Force Donations lay the foundation for the After School sports program to function. Beyond that there are many expenses that include referees, coaches, facilities, equipment, score keepers, and occasionally uniforms. The budget varies depending on the sport and is heavily dependent on donations. There will be a recommended donation participants can pay during the registration process through parks and rec. (website link will be provided). If you choose to pay more or less, than you must contact Deborah Blackwell at dblackwell@brssd.org to arrange a meeting to finalize registration. Players may not play in a scheduled game until the registration process is complete.

Ralston has an active After School Sports Program that emphasizes participation and sportsmanship.  This program is operated by joint agreement between Ralston School and the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department.  Participation in this program is a privilege.  Academic and behavioral standards are as follows:

  • All students must have earned a 2.0 or better grade point average in core classes   to participate in the after school sports program.
  • Students may get documentation via weekly progress reports to verify their academic eligibility.
  • Students must also maintain good attendance and satisfactory behavior.
  • Student MUST be in school to participate in the practice and/or game that particular day.
  • Registration form must be completed and turned in before student can participate in any sports program.

If a student receives a one-day suspension, that notice serves as a warning regarding his/her participation in the after school sports program.  Should that student receive another suspension, he/she will be immediately ineligible for continued participation during that particular after-school sport season.

Students who are not participating in the sports program or who are ineligible for participation may not “hang around” the gym, playground, or field after school.  Be sure to listen to announcements regarding team games and practices.  If a student is not on a team, then he/she should go directly home after school.

School dismisses at 3:03 p.m.  All students are to be off campus by 3:25 p.m.
